on the justification of meat eating: I think every/any time we do something that people think of as challenging and/or morally superior (even if they mock it) there’s an impulse to justify it. I’ve recently had to give up vegetarianism after almost 20 years and I’m sad about it, but I thought hard about it and don’t feel apologetic. Some of my vegetarian acquaintances, though, seem to expect a justification for my defection. Ah well.

Thanks for the comment! I’ve probably been guilty of making someone feel like they’ve had to justify their food habits as they relate to vegetarianism/veganism, mainly because I don’t get it really, I’ve never wanted to not eat meat. However, what people eat is so personal, asking for justification for food choices is tantamount to asking for justification of one’s religion. Except, if someone doesn’t eat cheese, I’m totally judging them.
