Buying cigarettes in Canada can be more complicated than simply choosing a familiar brand from a convenience store shelf. Prices vary considerably by province, taxes add substantially to the final cost, and consumers also need to consider whether an online retailer is operating within applicable tobacco laws.
For anyone researching cigarettes online in Canada, factors such as product availability, pricing transparency, shipping policies, age verification, and legal compliance are worth considering before placing an order.
It is particularly important to verify that tobacco products intended for sale in Canada carry the appropriate excise stamp. The Canada Revenue Agency says the stamp indicates that applicable federal excise duty has been paid, and consumers are advised not to purchase tobacco products without the required stamp.
Below is a comparison of eight online cigarette retailers and tobacco shops that Canadian consumers may encounter when researching the market.
1. Discount Smokes
Website: https://discountsmokes.co/
Discount Smokes is an online tobacco retailer serving customers interested in cigarette products and other smoking-related purchases.
One of the main things to consider when evaluating an online tobacco retailer is how clearly it presents its product range and ordering information. A straightforward website can make it easier to compare available products, review pricing, and understand shipping or payment requirements before completing an order.
Discount Smokes offers a range of cigarette products through its online storefront. Customers should review the site’s current product availability, shipping terms, age-verification requirements, and applicable restrictions before ordering.
Pricing can also change frequently because tobacco products are subject to federal and provincial taxes and duties. Canada’s federal cigarette excise duty was adjusted effective April 1, 2026, with the rate set at $0.97299 per five cigarettes or fraction thereof.
Pros:
- Online product catalog
- Allows customers to review products before ordering
- Provides shipping and ordering information online
- Convenient alternative to visiting a physical retailer
Cons:
- Product availability can change
- Tobacco purchases are subject to legal age and regulatory requirements
- Prices may vary because of applicable taxes and duties
Best for: Adults researching online tobacco retailers and comparing available products, pricing, and ordering policies.
2. Native Smokes Canada
Native Smokes Canada focuses on tobacco products associated with Indigenous manufacturers and retailers. The category is distinct from mainstream commercial cigarette retailing and can appeal to consumers specifically looking for Indigenous tobacco brands.
When considering any tobacco retailer, consumers should check where the products originate, what taxes or duties apply, and whether the products are appropriately stamped for the intended Canadian market.
Pros:
- Focus on Indigenous tobacco products
- Specialized product selection

Cons:
- Selection may differ from mainstream cigarette retailers
- Availability can change
- Applicable provincial and federal requirements should be checked

Frequently Asked Questions
Is It Legal to Buy Cigarettes Online in Canada?
Online tobacco sales are subject to federal and provincial or territorial rules. Age verification is an important part of tobacco access requirements, and Health Canada is also developing proposed regulatory changes addressing age and identity verification for online and distance sales.
Consumers should check the current rules applicable to their province or territory before purchasing.
Where Can You Find the Cheapest Cigarettes Online in Canada?
Prices vary by retailer, product, province, taxes, duties, and shipping charges. Rather than relying solely on an advertised carton price, compare the complete checkout cost and verify whether applicable taxes and delivery fees are included.
How Long Does Shipping Take When You Order Cigarettes Online in Canada?
Shipping times depend on the retailer, destination, carrier, and applicable restrictions. Check the retailer’s current shipping policy before placing an order, particularly if you live in a remote or northern area.
Are Online Cigarette Prices Really Cheaper Than In-Store?
Not necessarily. Online and physical-store prices can differ, but tobacco prices are affected by federal and provincial taxes and duties. Shipping charges can also change the final cost of an online purchase.
What Should You Look for in an Online Cigarette Retailer?
Look for clear business information, transparent pricing, secure payment procedures, age-verification requirements, shipping policies, customer-service information, and clear information about the legality and taxation of the tobacco products being sold.
Can You Buy Cigarettes Online in Bulk in Canada?
Some retailers offer multiple-carton or larger-quantity purchasing options. However, buying in bulk does not eliminate applicable age, tax, excise, shipping, or other legal requirements.
Do Online Smoke Shops Ship to All Canadian Provinces?
Shipping availability varies between retailers and destinations. A retailer may impose restrictions based on provincial or territorial requirements, carrier policies, or its own shipping terms.
How Do You Know If an Online Cigarette Store Is Trustworthy?
Check whether the retailer provides clear contact information, transparent terms, secure payment procedures, age verification, and information about the products it sells. For tobacco products, consumers should also verify the presence of the required excise stamp.
The CRA specifically advises consumers to look for the excise stamp when purchasing tobacco products and states that products without the required stamp are contraband.
What Payment Methods Do Canadian Online Cigarette Stores Accept?
Payment methods vary between retailers. Common options may include electronic payment services or other online payment methods, but customers should check the retailer’s current checkout information for the available options.
Do You Need ID to Receive a Cigarette Delivery in Canada?
Age verification requirements apply to tobacco sales, and online or distance sellers may need to take steps to verify age and identity. Requirements can vary depending on the applicable jurisdiction and sales process. Health Canada’s current regulatory plan specifically addresses age and identity verification for online tobacco sales.
